LaDaughn: I have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and was using an oxygen tank at
home and a portable oxygen device for travel. A friend referred me to Rita who instructed me with Rita, and
I have not needed to use the oxygen devices. Following Rita's exercises and techniques work. They
have helped tremendously and given me considerably relief. Before working with Rita, I took classes
relating to COPD; however, the material was not presented to me where I could grasp it.
Deirdre: I came to Rita (the studio owner) and Yoga Life Style overweight and unaware of what was
possible with the right attitude and guidance. Her personal commitment to health and wellness allowed me
to greatly improve and I am well on my way to meeting my fitness goals. Thus far, I've lost 70 lbs and
gained tremendous knowledge and courage as it relates to fitness. Not only is this a wonderful studio
whose focus is on making sure your practice improves through injury free (that has been my experience in
the 2 years I have been going) training and understanding, but the teachers take the intimidation factor out
of learning yoga. They also offer pilates and scultping/toning classes, which are fantastic as well. If you
want a studio that is not pretentious, welcoming to everyone at every level, about progression and
feeling better inside and out --this is the place!
Stella: Total wellness (mind, body, and breath) is what Yoga Life Style is about. I have always been
interested in yoga and have been to various yoga classes and studios throughout my adult life and never
attended on a regular basis. If I did, I ended up going to chiropractors to alleviate pain in my lower back --
until I met Rita. At Yoga Life Style, health and well-being is what she and her studio is all about. She took
the time to teach me correct body alignment, to use the breath to stay focused, and to understand
each pose to make it work for me. Rita and her staff have great enthusiasm and passion. I love the
pilates and sculpting and toning classes that she offers as well. Competitiveness is not in her vocabulary.
Rita has made me a better and stronger person, both physically and mentally. If you're looking to improve
your health and be challenged, then consider Yoga Life Style.
Jacky: I currently attend a senior adult fitness class at Yoga Life Style. As a senior woman who is often
active in classes at the local senior center, I learned about Rita's exercise class in October 2006. Her
classes had already begun, and because of the popularity and interest in her class, I was unable to gain
admission until the first of this year. Very shortly, it became apparent to me Why! Rita is a very well-
schooled, wonderful teacher who is devoted to her instruction and is eager to give individual attention
where needed. She is warm and personable and manages to give equal time to all her students. Her
exercises have helped me so much with stretching, proper breathing, and the enthusiasm to practice
her teachings at home. My sciatica and scoliosis have greatly improved since joining her classes.
Thank you Rita. You surely have my admiration and continued indulgence.
Cynthia: I want to thank you for your wonderful patience and belief in me and my ability to become more
flexible and stronger through yoga. As you know, I am a nearly 50-year old wife, mother, and nurse, and I
am great at taking care of everyone and everything first, leaving little time for myself. As a result, I have
become alarmingly overweight, inflexible, and weak. Add that to my very stressful job, and I am a tight
bundle of muscles and bones.
Since I have been practicing yoga with you (about two months), I am beginning to feel stronger and much
more flexible. The changes are subtle, but I can feel them happening. I really appreciate your great
knowledge of the muscles and bones. I like the way you explain what we are doing and why. And you
never push me beyond my capability; in fact, you are very safety conscious. Other programs I have tried
rarely took into account different people's ability. I never feel less important than "Miss Flexible" training
right next to me! In fact, the more advanced students seem to help encourage me and are excited with
my accomplishments.
I look forward to continuing to train with you and to make my health most important. With your help, I am
beginning to feel balance in my life again.
Joan: Before my mother (Joan, age 82) participated in your yoga class last fall, she could barely walk
without the use of a cane due to the pain of diabetic neuropathy which affects her feet and legs. It was
explained to her that diabetic neuropathy was irreversible, and in time, it would get worse. She lived with
the thought each day that the future could hold the possibility of an amputation of her feet or her legs.
Prior to your class, she fell and was unable to get back up on her own, many times due to her loss of
balance. She could barely raise herself up from her chair, and her medication for pain was increased. She
also noticed that the neuropathy had moved upward to her knees and was affecting her hands as well. It
was clear her next step with this disease would be a wheel chair. What I have just described, I have seen
with my own eyes, and I was very concerned for her health and well being. I dreaded seeing my mother,
who worked so hard to follow her diabetic diet and was once so flexible for her age, decline more and more
physically.
Once my mother started your class, she began to see a vast improvement. You even showed her how to
get up on her own from her mat when she was terrified of being on ground level. After a few months, I
watched her “shuffle” turn into regular strides. She no longer uses her cane or holds onto my arm. She
is now able to move from a sitting position without any aid. Her medication has not been increased, and
she is dealing with less and less pain. I have watched her balance increase as well as her zeal for life!
She is limber again and says she always feels so much better after participating in your classes. Thank
you Rita for bringing her back to us. The gift you have given us is too great to match or repay. There are no
words strong enough to express my gratitude for all you have done for my mother. Testimony provided
by Adele, Joan’s daughter.
Adele: I have also benefited from your classes. Being 62 years old, I knew my physical strength and
mobility were declining. Being a college student for two years and finding little time to exercise left its
effects on me. This is my third month participating in your class, and what I have learned has doubled my
strength and flexibility. I was beginning to get “aging pains” in my joints and could not walk the distance I
once took in strides. However, since participating in your classes, those “pains” are gone, and I am
walking longer distances without effort. Learning breathing techniques in your class has helped me
tremendously to relax and manage the harmful side effects of stress. Thank you, Rita. You have
probably saved me from approaching medical conditions that would have made my life difficult and stressful.
I have been a member of fitness centers and attended several fitness classes through various community
colleges. However, I have never known an instructor such as you who is so knowledgeable about the
workings of the human body and who places the safety of her students as her first concern. I really
appreciate the time you take with each one of us to make sure we are doing the exercises correctly. I
also appreciate your special concern for the elderly and your heart’s desire to see us improve in and regain
our health and wellness. After all, if a person has everything the world could offer but does not have
good health, then life cannot be enjoyed. Thank you for giving me many more years of health!
Virginia: I have been recovering from a stroke for almost eight years. During that time, I tried many ways
to help my recovery. About three years ago, I met Rita through a group exercise class. For approximately
one year, she worked with me as part of the exercise class. Then for the past 1 1/2 years, I did private
training with her. All of this training has made tremendous progress for me; not just in my physical
condition but also in my mental attitude and general outlook in life. I have learned so much about the
human body, it is amazing! Rita, yoga, and pilates have been life savers. Thank you.
