About Rita Sommer

Yoga.  In 1998, I started my journey in yoga.  I have done
extensive training with some of the most prestigious yoga teachers in the United States.  Since 2003 to
present, I continue to further my knowledge and experience in Hatha Yoga.  I have been a yoga teacher
since 2003 and am registered with Yoga Alliance.

Group Fitness Instructor.  I have been a certified group fitness instructor since 1998.  I have instructed
classes in step aerobics, floor aerobics, in-door cycling, teen fitness, flexibility exercises, abdominal
exercises, circuit training, yoga, pilates, and body sculpt/tone exercises at various fitness centers and
private organizations.  I was a fitness instructor at the military leadership school at Travis Air Force Base
for two years.  I implemented the first circuit training exercise program at the Travis Fitness Center and
developed a similar program to train the fitness staff.

Senior Adult Fitness.  In 1999, I developed and implemented the first senior fitness program at the
Travis Air Force Base Fitness Center.  I am certified as a senior fitness instructor with the State of
California.  I teach senior adults, ages 50+, in weight-bearing exercises and therapeutic and
rehabilitation applications.  I currently teach senior adult exercise at public and private organizations.

Certified Personal Trainer.  In 1999, I certified as a personal trainer with one of the most
renowned institutions in the United States.  I have provided and continue to provide personal training
to individuals who have a need and the desire to improve their health and wellness on a one-to-one
basis.

Mat Pilates.  I am certified in mat work pilates and have been an instructor since 2001.

Continuing Education.  I attend yoga, pilates, and general fitness classes and workshops throughout
the year to remain on the cutting edge of the fitness industry.
I am currently studying sports medicine
and fitness science.

Philosophy.  Having a chronic asthmatic condition several years ago and learning that exercise would
alleviate it, I became a dedicated and avid fitness enthusiast for the past 28 years.  I no longer suffer
from asthma, because the type I had was not exercise-induced.

I espouse a variety of exercise programs such as cardio, yoga, and weight training with an emphasis on
the breath, body alignment, and proper form and technique for total physical and mental health.  I
believe that one form of exercise is not enough to fulfill total mental and physical fitness, especially in
today's society.  I encourage everyone to set short and long-term goals to progressively achieve her/his
physical and mental fitness.

My passion is to guide individuals with their health and wellness through an exercise program that is
appropriate for them.  I embrace the progressive (slowly but surely) training approach in my teaching
skills.  One of my favorite statements is "All forms of exercise are healthy; therefore, the individual is
wealthy."  I believe that EXERCISE should be a way of life for everyone.

Restorative Yoga.  In 2007, I certified as a restorative yoga
trainer, after four years of practicing it as a student.  It  provides
me with the unique opportunity to greatly enhance people’s
health and wellness.  The training provided an in-depth
knowledge and experience of the soothing and quieting qualities
provided by restorative yoga poses. The therapeutic approach of
relaxing, renewing, and restoring produces phenomenal results
for many individuals. It is very helpful for stress reduction,
fatigue, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis, asthma, to name
a few.
